The ideal weight for a person of a certain physical stature can be quite different from the average female height and weight. The ideal weight is determined by several factors, most of them medical. The average weight, however, is a true representation of the size of women today.

According to the National Center for Health Statistics, the average female height is five feet, three point eight inches. So if you are between five feet, three inches and five feet, four inches, you’re among the vast majority of women who fall into the average height category average woman height.
The average weight for a woman might be a surprise. First, let’s look at the ideal weight for a woman. You can begin by calculating your frame size. A quick way to do this is to wrap your fingers around your wrist. If they overlap, you have a small frame. If your fingers meet, you have a medium frame. If they do not meet, you have a large frame.
Now, you look at your height. For the sake of argument, we’re going to use five feet, four inches – the average female height. What is your ideal weight?
If you have a small frame, your ideal weight is between 114 and 127 pounds. If you have a medium frame, your ideal weight should be somewhere between 124 and 138 pounds. If your frame is a large one, you should hover between 134 and 151 pounds.
But here’s the surprise: The average female weight is 162.9 pounds!
That means that the average women, no matter her frame size, would be considered overweight by most doctors. There are exceptions, of course – if you are a very muscular woman, your ideal weight might be a bit higher, based on the fact that muscle weighs more than fat. But for the everyday woman who is worried about those extra five pounds, it might help you to know that there are many, many women in the same boat. The average female height and weight means that almost every woman is a bit overweight!
This does not, however, mean that you don’t need to drop the pounds. If you want to lose that weight to make yourself feel better, or to look better in your clothes, by all means, keep up the good fight! Getting to your ideal weight will help eradicate health problems you might be enduring, such as diabetes or high blood pressure. Being at your ideal weight is also an inspiration for others – you will become proof that those who want to lose weight can get there!
